Cavuto, 4:30 PM, 6/19/13, Hosting Jim DeMint
DeMint: Neil, this is a trick they used for Obamacare. CBO said it would save our country money and we know it’s going to cost trillions. The people who write the bill put revenue in the first 10 years and expenses outside the window. This bill is going to cost trillions of dollars.
Cavuto: Others, such as Rubio, say that when you talk about trillions in costs, you’re just scaring people away. You say you are, and they’re the ones that have it wrong, but it’s very hard because it’s either an albatross or potential boon.
DeMint: Heritage has done the analysis, just updated a 2007 report on this. It costs a lot more now than it did before. Some folks are just projecting without any data and I have not seen any analysis that shows this does not cost Americans trillions of dollars.
Cavuto: Do you think this could hurt Republicans?
DeMint: We’re not going to win Hispanic vote by passing an amnesty a bill, we’re going to win them when we show them we care about them.
Hannity, 3:13 PM, 6/19/13, CBO Score
HANNITY: The CBO says it reduces the federal deficit –really? That doesn’t fit in with the CBO saying that 75% of the illegal immigration will continue…I think those numbers have been corrupted.
Rush Limbaugh, 12:41, 6/19/13, 46 Million “Illegals”
LIMBAUGH: Wait until you hear the real number of illegals we’re talking about here. And it isn’t 11 million, it’s 46 million. If you project not very far into the future. But what we’re being told is all these new people are going to be really attractive employees and they’re going to be hired and they’re going to start working and their output is going to be great and the American economy is just going to explode in growth. That assertion is an insult to our intelligence, because we know whoever hires them will pay them as little as they can get away with.
LIMBAUGH: Let’s look at some of the other aspects of the CBO report. We just heard from Reuters that it’s going to be magic — it’s going to grow the economy. The congressional budget office projects 16 million new immigrants will be added by 2033 on top of the current law-projected flow of 22 million. Furthermore, 8 million illegals will be granted permanent status. We’re talking a total here of 46 million legal immigrants as a result of the bill. Including a doubling of guest workers to 1.6 million in a single year. So 16 million new immigrants, that’s on top of the number already being discussed, that’s 11 or 12.
By the way, once this happens that number’s gonna skyrocket, because these border security amendments just went down in flames yesterday.
Rush Limbaugh, 12:50 PM, 6/19/13, CBO Report
LIMBAUGH: Back on the CBO report. We’re going to grant pathway to citizenship without border security. CBO says 16 million new immigrants on top of the current law projected flow of 22 million and current 8 million illegals will be granted legalization by 2033. We’re not talking here about the “great days of Ellis Island” and people escaping the tyranny of Europe. Nobody I know is anti-immigration, nobody I know is anti-Hispanic. That’s not what this is about.
Laura Ingraham, 11:49 AM, 6/19/13, Newly Legalized Workers Will Still Work Under Table
INGRAHAM: These new workers will probably want to keep working under the table and there’s no way to enforce English learning.
Martha MacCallum, America’s Newsroom, 10:52 AM, 6/19/13, CBO Report
MACCALLUM: The CBO says that the bill would end up cutting the deficit if it passes by $197 billion over the course of the first ten years, and GDP would eventually grow significantly. But Sen. Tom Coburn who watches the bottom line very closely in Washington has this question, when is the last time the CBO has been accurate about anything, he says? Why do you doubt this report?
COBURN: Well first of all, the language. The savings come into payment into the Social Security trust fund. That’s not even a calculation of the deficit. It counts for the debt, but not the deficit. But they’re highly inaccurate. And a lot of these people that are illegal today are paying Social Security taxes, because they’re working under an illegal Social Security number.
MACALLUM: That’s a really good point.
COBURN: And CBO says this bill will only cut illegal immigration by 25%. And no one is raising any problems with that, which they should be. You can’t have it both ways. It’s all smoke and mirror.
MACCALLUM: That’s a great point that there are a lot of illegal workers who pay into Social Security but don’t get money from it. So did CBO take that into account?
COBURN: Listen the CBO’s track record is abysmal. It’s not just accurate. You’re not just going to have 11 million illegals, you’ll have 8 million more under this bill.
Bill Hemmer, America’s Newroom, 10:06 AM, 6/19/13, CBO Report
HEMMER: You say immigration reform will decrease deficit and increase GDP. That’s a tall wishlist.
HOLTZ-EAKIN: That is what our study determined.
HEMMER: Well label me skeptical.
