reformApproximately 30,000[1] undocumented immigrants are currently held in federal detention centers across the nation. In late February, officials at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), an arm of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), released a several hundred detainees as part of a cost-savings measure before sequestration. The fallout was almost immediate with both Republicans and Democrats lining up to spin the situation. But at a time in the debate when both sides need to focus on comprehensive immigration reform, many are focused solely on border security.
